New stainless steel flask with black residue inside?

I recently bought a stainless steel flask, only to find some kind of black residue inside of it.. Does anyone know what it could be, and an easy way to get rid of it?
I would take it back to the store and point out the problem, since it sounds as if it was used before you bought it. There is no way for anyone to know what it might be. If it isn't removed with soap and water, definitely take it back and explain the

Actually, how long would black tea keep warm for, and how long would tea with milk keep warm for?
I might take some to school, that's all.

i often take a flask of coffee with milk to work, i make it at 6 am and it is still hot by the time i finish it about 2pm

Rises by 0.67 degrees celcius per minute. The tempertaure in the tin foil flask rises by 0.13 degrees celcius per minute. How much faster is the temperature rising in the black flask than in the tin foil flask every minute, as a percentage.
It is rising in the black flask 0.67/0.13 times as fast as in the silvered flask,this is the same as 67/13,I make this as about 5 times faster in the black than the silvered.So the ratio you want is 5:1(black:silvered).Impressive yeah?
