A year ago today:
40,000 Chileans took to the streets of Santiago to protest the initial approval of the five dams on the Baker and Pascua rivers. Today, the one year anniversary, is being observed with manifestations and marches across Patagonia.
Although Chile's Supreme Court voted in favor of the dams almost a month ago, those who are against the HidroAysen project hold out hope that the as-yet-unfinished plans for the 1,400-mile transmission line to move energy from the dams to the capital will do what the legal appeal to the highest court could not: stop the project.
